You have such a unique way of writing that I am captured each time I reread one of your books. The Codex Alera is my favorite and I too hope that this is not the last book. Thank you for sharing your gift of imagination with us.
Posted by Paula at January 31, 2010 03:02 AMFinal book in the series? I hope not...wish Mr.Butcher would continue the series by taking Tavi back to Canea to battle the rest of the Vord.
Posted by Melissa at January 19, 2010 06:36 AMthe book is super amazing, read it four times in a row!
Posted by kumar at January 15, 2010 04:04 PMThe map is absolutely wonderful. Thank you.
Posted by Chris at December 26, 2009 08:10 PMYAY! How could I have missed this before? Fantastic! =D
Posted by Aasemoon at December 15, 2009 06:34 AMI remember leviathans having turtle heads but don't recall the fins being that big. Also where is the Feverthorn Jungle and the swamp Amara, Bernard and Sextus slogged through in Captain's Fury?
Posted by Anthony at December 13, 2009 03:52 AMi would have liked to see maybe a second map, showing exactly where the croach had spread as of the begginning of the sixth. it was a little hard to understand exactly where the croach began.
Posted by Harrison at December 3, 2009 08:26 PMI love this map. Fantasy books with maps at the beginning are so helpful when you read them. I am always flipping back to the map as I read to make sure I know where things are happening. This map was very well done and just makes the book that much better. But the map is just the icing on the cake because the book itself, not to mention the entire series, is a pure work of art. I love it.
Posted by Stephen at December 3, 2009 10:03 AMummm, Aren't aricholt and kordholt the same place? Kordholt was renamed after his son Aric took over.
Posted by Aaron at December 1, 2009 06:47 PMoh, princeps fury... my bad. had captains on the brain
Posted by cora at November 29, 2009 12:57 AMNow we just need a detailed map of Canea to go with Captain's Fury...
Posted by Cora at November 29, 2009 12:37 AMPS--I am going to keep the map as my desktop background for YEARS.
Posted by Sue at November 28, 2009 01:57 AMAh, been waiting for so long for a map...I love maps at the beginning of fantasy books; cliche or not, they provide reference points which I constantly flip back to while reading, and Alera's is no exception. Love the picture details and the font and the sepia tone. Huzzah!!
Posted by Sue at November 28, 2009 01:55 AMI would imagine the shorelines *are* 4x as large. We only see the slightest nearest edge of them in the pic, here. :)
Posted by Fred Hicks at November 21, 2009 12:26 AMThe map is really cool! It is very well done!
I thought Canea's shorelines were 4x larger than Alera's, according to the canean maps, but I'm probably off somewhere. Maybe Canea is full of big fat liars.
sorry to sound whiney. It is an amazing work of art, so therefore I can't help poking at it, because I am jealous. I've never been able to escape from black and white.
Posted by Alex at November 21, 2009 12:24 AMIf you read Captain's Fury, during the part where the Slive is being chased by the Mactis, Isana clearly sees a leviathan. by her description, they resemble turtles without the shells. I think the pic is highly accurate.
The map is great! I also have a fondness for maps - it helps to track movements & puts everything into perspective. I also would like to see detailed area / region maps.
Keep up the great work Jim & Priscilla & all mapmakers!
I always thought leviathans looked different than turtles as well. Huh.
Posted by JohnW at November 18, 2009 09:42 PMLeviathans look like sea turtles? I always pictured them as giant eel looking things
Posted by ChainBlue at November 18, 2009 11:52 AMInteresting map. Though, it makes me think of an early map of America with Canada and Mexico removed. And the east coast split off partially to create it's own landmass. It's still nice to have though and it should be interesting to re-read the novels with the use of a map. It would be cool if there were more in depth regional maps for places within the novels though, for instance a map of Alera Imperia.
Posted by Data at November 18, 2009 03:12 AMThank you, thank you! I've so often wished for a map while I was reading The Codex Alera. It's perfect and almost exactly like I imagined.
Posted by Frodobella at November 17, 2009 06:47 PMAbsolutely outstanding!
Reminds me of 'The Marauder's Map' from "The Prisoner of Azkaban" by JK Rowling (Harry Potter, Book 3).
"Messrs. Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs
Purveyors of Aids to Magical Mischief-Makers
are proud to present THE MARAUDER'S MAP"
Love it.
Posted by Soullumination at November 17, 2009 03:53 PMNo, it shouldn't be a map of Italy, because Alera is not Earth.
Posted by Fred Hicks at November 17, 2009 01:39 PMIf their remote ancestors are the Romans shouldn't it be a map of Italy ?????
Posted by Paul at November 17, 2009 01:23 PMWow! I mean, wow!
Posted by Molly at November 17, 2009 01:20 PMBeautiful map, great job fans. Excellent work Priscilla, it is wonderful to see such great fantasy materialized. Especially when readers Ideas are taken in to account.
Cant wait for the Novel.

Posted by Guidance at November 17, 2009 11:46 AMBeautiful!
Posted by Pamela at November 17, 2009 10:50 AMI know the map in front of the phat fantasy novel is a cliche. But I am a map lover, and I applaud finally getting to see a map of Alera.
And its such a lovely map too. Kudos to Ms. Spencer!
